Asha Bhosle at her 70s is capable of making the old and the young dance to her tunes of rhythmic and sensuous numbers. Clothed every moment with the finest attire of human emotions ‘smile’, the Indian idol of the top Bollywood singers has been a victim of many satires and hard truth of life. Her Childhood:
Asha Bhosle was born on September 8 1933, in a middle class Maharashtrian family. She was the third child of Dinanath Mageshkar and Shudhhamati who was a theatre actor and classical singer. Her other siblings are the melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, Hridayanth Mageshkar, Usha Mangeshkar and Meena Mangeshkar. Her father died when she was just 9 years. The loss that could not be dispatched had to be paid by the two young girls Lata and Asha. The family moved from Pune to Mumbai where the sisters began to sing and act in films to support their family. Asha Bhosle made her debut as a singer in the Marathi movie ‘Majha Bal’ in 1943. Her Hindi Film debut was made in 1948 in the film ‘Chunaria’ for the song ‘Saawan aaya’.
She eloped to come back
Asha Bhosle Asha Bhosle eloped at the age of 16 with 31-year-old Ganpatrao Bhosle. They married against their family wishes and had three children. However the marriage failed miserably as her husband and in- laws ill-treated her. After few years she waved an end to their relationship and returned to her maternal  home
Her Bollywood Career
Birds sing after the storm. This bird of melody was not an exception! Asha Bhosle sang with the tone that wasn’t lamenting but rather breathing a new life to the Indian Bollywood Music. She was carving her own niche to be called as ‘The queen of Indipop’.
Asha Bhosle continued her career as a playback singer to support her family in the shadow of her elder sister. The return was not a glorious one. She was given the assignments, which prominent playback singers denied. She sang for the bad girls and vamps of the movies or for the second grade movies. She gained recognition only in the year 1952 in Dilip Kumar-starrer Sangdil.
O.P Nayyar gave Asha Bhosle her breakthrough performance in the movie C.I.D. The collaboration of two bought in many hits. Later, she also received patronage from composers such as S.D Burman and Ravi.

Asha found a new ray of hope in the relationship that she shared with the famous legendary music director R D Burman. Their collaboration resulted in several hits and admiration from many. They married in 1980. The great composer helped her establish her own feature without stepping into her elder sister’s toes. Their unforgettable numbers include, ‘Chura liya hai tumnein’, ‘yadoon ki baarat’ and’ ‘meera samman lauta do’. The partnership breathed its last after the death of R.D. Burman. But he still lives in her voice. Asha had many solo albums dedicated to her beloved husband after his death that sold like hotcakes.
From 1960-1970 Asha became the voice of the Bollywood’s famous cabaret dancer, Helen. The duo with seductive dancing techniques and sensuous voice put the floor on flame. Their Most Popular Songs include, ‘Piya tu ab toh aaja’, ‘Yeh mera dil’ and ‘O Haseena Zulfon Wali’.
